UNEP Executive Director Calls on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), who is on an official visit to Pakistan, called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday.

PM appreciates UNEP’s work

The primier appreciated the work being done by the UNEP and sought enhanced efforts to more effectively address climate change, biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation.

Shehbaz also said that climate change was one of the defining issues of times. He said that being most vulnerable to climate change, Pakistan fully appreciated the need for a global response to combating climate change and building resilience and shared the efforts being undertaken by the current government in this regard.

The UNEP executive director briefed the prime minister on the initiatives being taken by the UNEP in Pakistan and appreciated the active role that Pakistan was playing.

The prime minister also encouraged the UNEP to contribute to and support Pakistan’s efforts to build back better and greener after the devastating floods in the country.
