ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Islamic Relief have agreed to provide Rs 10,000 cash to each family to support flood-affected people in Pakistan.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support flood-affected communities was signed in Islamabad to assist the flood-hit people in Pakistan, especially in Sindh. On the occasion, UNDP Pakistan Resident Representative Knut Ostby told the media that the aim of the partnership is to rehabilitate infrastructure in the flood-hit areas of the country. He added that an initial target of ten thousand cash for work hours will be set up, with an increased focus on the inclusion of women. He said that the Rehabilitation initiatives will also be identified in the selected areas that can be started immediately.

UNDP and Islamic Relief
The Ministry of Finance and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pakistan launched the SDG Investments and Climate Financing Facility to mobilize private sector investments. The initiative will work to bring investments from several domestic and foreign investors. UNDP Pakistan Resident Representative Knut Ostby said the objective of the facility entrusted by the Government and UNDP Administrator was aimed at enabling Islamabad to take bold choices to secure and restore their planet, and at the same time campaign down poverty and inequality.
Climate Change and Pakistan
Pakistan has suffered a lot due to climate change as the recently-launched Post Disaster Needs Assessment Report (PDNA) estimated the total floods damage at $14.9 billion, total loss at $15.2 billion, and total needs at $16.3 billion.
