ISLAMABAD: The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), in partnership with the District Education Department, renovated Government Girls High School in Killi Ismail in Quetta, capital of the Balochistan.
The Inauguration ceremony was attended by Samuel Rizk, Resident Representative of UNDP Pakistan, along with officials from the education department, teachers, students, and community members. The school renovation was accomplished under the “Promoting COVID-19 Response and Public Services Capacity in Balochistan Pakistan for Accelerating SDGs Delivery Project,” funded by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund (GDF) from China.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong of China commended the close collaboration between UNDP and China, highlighting their joint efforts in implementing the Global Development Initiative. He praised the positive role played by the “small yet smart” project in Balochistan Province, contributing to post-epidemic recovery and post-flood reconstruction in local communities.
Samuel Rizk underscored the significance of girls’ education, said that education is not only a fundamental right but also a crucial tool in breaking the cycle of poverty and achieving sustainable development. He stressed the importance of ensuring access to quality education for every girl, enabling them to realize their full potential and contribute to a brighter future for themselves, their families, and their communities.
The renovation of the Girls High School marks a significant achievement in advancing the education sector, particularly for girls, across multiple project districts, including Quetta, Gwadar, Nushki, Killa Abdulla, and Gwadar.
