New Delhi: Recent revelations indicate at least two undisclosed incidents of skirmishes between Indian and Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
The Indian Army, seeking to uplift morale, conferred gallantry awards on personnel involved in responding to aggressive behavior by China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
Citations read during a ceremony by the Army’s Western Command last week detailed the firm responses of Indian troops to PLA soldiers’ aggression along the LAC. The incidents mentioned occurred between September 2021 and November 2022. The Western Command had initially uploaded a video of the ceremony, including commentary on the gallantry awards, on its YouTube channel, but it was later deactivated.
Tensions persist between India and China at the LAC since the clash in Galwan Valley on June 16, 2020, where 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives. Multiple skirmishes have occurred along the LAC over the last three-and-a-half years. The undisclosed clashes reportedly occurred between December 9, 2022, and January 13, highlighting ongoing challenges in the region.
The Modi government faces criticism from the Opposition for alleged concessions to China after the Galwan clash, heightening concerns over territorial integrity.
