GENEVA: The United Nations issued a warning to Israel on Tuesday (Oct 1) regarding a “large-scale ground invasion” of Lebanon, following the Israeli military stated a ground operation.
Liz Throssell, spokeswoman for the UN rights office, expressed concerns to reporters in Geneva, stating, “With armed violence between Israel and Hezbollah escalating, the consequences for civilians have already been devastating.”

She cautioned that a significant ground invasion by Israel into Lebanon would likely lead to even greater suffering.
Her remarks came as Israeli troops engaged in intense clashes inside Lebanon after launching the ground offensive early Tuesday, following a week of deadly airstrikes. Throssell highlighted that Israel’s escalating strikes on Lebanon had reportedly resulted in over 1,000 fatalities within just two weeks.
The violence has also forced approximately one million people to flee their homes, according to Lebanese officials. In recent days, Israel has expanded its attacks to include both Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, focusing on Hezbollah targets.
