UN HRC votes to establish an international fact-finding mission to investigate HR violations in Iran
The UN Human Rights Council has voted to establish an independent international commission of inquiry to investigate claims of human rights abuses in Iran related to the protests that began on September 16. The council voted 25 in favor, six against, and 16 abstention.
The resolution presented by Germany and Iceland called on Iran to end the discrimination and violence against women and girls in public and private life, law and practice, and to respect all human rights”.

These include the right to freedom of thought, expression, and opinion, the right to assembly, association, and freedom of religion or belief. Argentina, France, Gabon, Libya, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Ukraine are among the countries that supported this resolution, while Armenia, China, Cuba, Eritrea, Pakistan, and Venezuela are among those that supported the election.
After speaking to the council in the morning, UN chief Volker Turk told reporters: “I am saddened to see what is happening in Iran now, with what we can describe as a serious border problem. Enough for people.
