UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations Security Council will hold a session on Afghanistan in September, with Sima Bahous, head of UN Women, and Rosemary DiCarlo, head of UNAMA, expected to participate.

While the exact date and agenda remain unclear, a representative from Afghanistan’s civil society will also speak.

The session comes amid heightened tensions as the Taliban has cut cooperation with the UN following criticism from UNAMA.

Afghanistan faces a worsening humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by severe restrictions on girls’ and women’s rights, including bans on education and employment. The suppression of fundamental freedoms is deepening the plight of Afghans, prompting calls for urgent international intervention to address these human rights abuses.
