UNITED NATIONS:  United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has accused Israel of spreading false information about his stance on the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip. During a news conference focused on information integrity, Guterres addressed claims that he has been supportive of Hamas.

Guterres expressed frustration, stating, “I’ve repeatedly heard accusations that I never condemned Hamas and that I am supportive of them.” He clarified that he has condemned Hamas actions 102 times, with 51 of those condemnations made in formal speeches and the rest on various social media platforms. He emphasized, “In the end, the truth will prevail.”

In response, Israel’s UN Ambassador, Gilad Erdan, criticized Guterres, arguing that his words have not been matched by his actions. “Guterres’ condemnations are empty words. His actions have shown a bias that supports Hamas. It is unacceptable that the secretary-general paints a distorted picture of the situation,” Erdan said, adding that Guterres should resign and accusing him of being “an accomplice to terror.”

Tensions between the UN and Israel have been high, particularly during the Israel-Hamas conflict. Israel has accused the UN of bias and claimed that UN staff have cooperated with Hamas and other militant groups. While the UN is investigating some of these allegations, it has noted that it has not yet received evidence from Israel in many cases.
