New York: UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric has said the United Nations will continue to engage with the interim government in Afghanistan. The development comes after Afghanistan announced that it would no longer cooperate with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) because of its constant propaganda.
Addressing a news conference, Dujarric called on Afghanistan to open more avenues for diplomatic engagement. He said, “I think we have been very vocal on the recent decision to further make women’s presence almost vanish in Afghanistan. In terms of the contacts with interim authorities, I mean, we will continue to engage with all stakeholders in Afghanistan, including the Taliban.”
Earlier, the United Nations (UN) expressed deep concern over the enactment of a morality law by Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban that imposes severe restrictions on personal freedom, silences women in public.
