RAFAH: The United Nations Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) has said that forced displacement has pushed over a million people away from the Gazan city of Rafah. The small city on the southern edge of Gaza had been sheltering around one million Palestinian people who fled Israeli strikes on other parts of the enclave, aid groups stated.

Since early May, Israel’s army has been carrying out what it claims is a limited operation in Rafah to root out Hamas and dismantle infrastructure used by the Palestinian group that runs the Gaza Strip.

Many Palestinian people have complained they are vulnerable to Israeli attacks wherever they go, and have been moving up and down Gaza in the past few months. UNRWA stated that thousands of families now shelter in destroyed and damaged facilities in the city of Khan Younis, where the UNRWA is giving essential services despite ‘increasing challenges’. The agency further said that the conditions are unspeakable in the area.
