UN Resident Coordinator Commends PRCS Humanitarian Services

ISLAMABAD: The United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator Julien on Tuesday lauded the efforts of Pakistan Red Crescent Society volunteers during floods and other calamities.

The UN Resident Coordinator, during a visit to the PRCS headquarters, emphasized the importance of collaboration with national and international humanitarian players focusing on early preparedness and disaster risk reduction to boost community resilience.

Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, Chairman of PRCS, thanked Harneis for his visit, highlighting its importance as a milestone in the collaboration between the United Nations and PRCS, stressing their mutual commitment to decreasing human suffering and advancing humanitarian efforts.

Cooperation Between UN Entities and PRCS

Both discussed potential areas of cooperation between UN entities and PRCS. Secretary General PRCS Muhammad Abiad Ullah briefed the visiting dignitary on different interventions.

The meeting discussed PRCS’s response to the Monsoon Floods in 2022. Collaborating with ICRC, IFRC, and the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement’s partners, PRCS has provided relief to more than 2.7 million people across fifty-five districts in Pakistan, constituting 10% of the total affected population.
