GENEVA: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) appealed on Tuesday for the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, which is currently grappling with a dire humanitarian crisis following two weeks of intense Israeli attacks.
“We call for an unimpeded and continuous flow of humanitarian assistance and medical aid to keep reaching Gaza,” stated Tamara Alrifai, the spokesperson for UNRWA. Alrifai emphasized that the aid that has entered Gaza so far represents only a fraction of the immense needs of the people affected by the conflict.
UN General Assembly to Discuss Gaza Situation on Thursday
The UN General Assembly is set to convene on Thursday to discuss the conflict. The meeting was scheduled following formal requests from several states, including Jordan, Russia, Syria, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Cambodia, urging General Assembly President Dennis Francis to hold the session.
While the Security Council has struggled to agree on a resolution regarding the conflict, it previously rejected a Russian draft resolution calling for a “humanitarian pause.” The Russian resolution condemned all violence against civilians.
