NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Caretaker Minister for Foreign Affairs Jalil Abbas Jilani has said that neither the United Nations nor any other state in the world endorsed the Indian claim on Jammu and Kashmir dispute with Pakistan.
Addressing a news conference in New York he said even the United Nations’ map did not show Kashmir as a part of India as the country had been claiming.
To a question about tension between Canada and India over the killing of a Sikh leader, the foreign minister said the Pakistan and other South Asian states had been victims of the assassinations from India.
Jalil Abbas Jilani maintained that India has to come clean on the adding the mask is coming off on the Indian face.
Foreign Minister Jilani said that Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar and he had a series of bilateral discussions with their counterparts and also participated in multiple sessions on different subjects.
He said meetings of the OIC Contact Groups on Kashmir and Palestine were also held during which Pakistan emphasized its efforts for peace and stability, besides highlighting the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
To another question, the foreign minister said that during the meeting in New York, the OIC reiterated its support and called for the resolution of the Palestine issue as per the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Pakistani FM voices concerns over Indian attempt to change demography of IIOJK
He said the steps taken by India on August 5, 2019 further deprived Kashmiri people of their rights. The FM noted Indian attempts to change the demography of IIOJK was a matter of great concern for Pakistan as well as the people of Kashmir.
The foreign minister said that Pakistan along with the like-minded countries had developed a harmony at COP27 and established the Climate Finance Fund.
About the outcome of the donors’ conference held in Geneva, he said the UN Secretary-General would call a meeting on September 27, where the representatives from the donor countries would present a report about their commitments.
He said Pakistan was carrying out the rehabilitation and reconstruction work from its own resources.
“We are hopeful that most of the promises will be fulfilled shortly,” he remarked.
Regarding the debate on the UNSC reforms, Foreign Minister Jilani said there was an agreement in the global community that there was no need for including another permanent member or group to the Council.
To a question, Jilani said Pakistan expected the interim Afghan government to act against groups carrying out their terror activities in Pakistan.
He said Pakistan had a very constructive discussion with Afghan authorities including meeting of the joint commission. The Afghan side was also committed to not to permit its soil to be used for terror activities.
