NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General has called upon the world to fulfill its promises regarding massive floods of 2022 in Pakistan, Western media reported on Wednesday.
Antonio Guterres made the remarks at the Informal Briefing to the General Assembly one year on from the 2022 Pakistan Floods.

He added the broken promises to rebuild Pakistan presents a litmus test for climate justice.
The UN chief regretted billions were committed to Pakistan by rich nations in the aftermath of the deadly floods out of which majority was in loans. He added Pakistan is still waiting for much of the assistance.
Guterres expressing his views said delays in funding undermined people’s efforts to overcome from the impacts of the natural calamity.
He adding that Pakistan was a double victim of climate chaos and unfair international financial system.

About US $9 billion was committed to help reconstruct Pakistan worst affected by the deadly flood and rain in 2022 which displaced eight million people and killed some 1,700.
Guterres said more than eight million people in areas affected by the floods lack access to clean water.
He strongly believed that countries that contributed to global warming should play an active role to fight the challenge.
Guterres also proposed the establishment of a loss and damage fund for developing states like Pakistan which are at the risk of climate change.
He said that UN released immediately US $10 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund to launch response efforts soon after the flood devastated many parts of Pakistan followed by another US $6.5 million within weeks.
