UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his deep shock and dismay at the Israeli attack on an ambulance convoy outside Gaza’s Al Shifa hospital.

He reiterated his plea for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, emphasizing the distressing situation in Gaza, where civilians, including women and children, have endured a month of siege, deprivation of aid, bombings, and displacement.

The UN chief decried the dire conditions in Gaza, with insufficient food, water, and medicine, dwindling hospital and water plant fuel, and overcrowded UNRWA shelters subjected to bombardments.

He highlighted the overflowing morgues, empty shops, poor sanitation, and rising health issues, particularly among children. The entire population bears the scars of trauma, and nowhere is safe.

Guterres renewed his call for a humanitarian ceasefire, emphasizing the importance of upholding international humanitarian law. He stressed the necessity of safeguarding civilians, civilian infrastructure, humanitarian and medical workers.

UN Chief Urges for Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

He urged the secure entry and distribution of vital supplies and services and unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza, commensurate with the severe conditions.

In a UN briefing session, Pakistan’s Ambassador Munir Akram did not mince words, calling for an immediate halt to what he described as the Israeli “genocide” against the Palestinian people. He reiterated his appeal for a ceasefire, emphasizing the gravity of the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, more than 9000 Palestinians, mostly children and women, have been martyred, and over 32,000 people were injured in the ongoing Israeli brutal bombings on the Gaza Strip.
