Umer Sharif: Famous Actor Remembered on His Death Anniversary

ISLAMABAD: Umer Sharif, a well-known actor, comedian, television host, and stage personality was remembered today (Monday) on the second anniversary of his passing.

Born on April 19, 1960, in Karachi, Umer Sharif embarked on his illustrious career at the age of 19 in 1974, initially as a stage performer in Karachi. He was a prominent figure in the world of television and stage and a renowned comedic talent.

Some of his famous comedy stage plays include “Buddha Ghar Pe Hy” and “Bakra Qistoon Pe.”Umer Sharif, known for his roles in movies such as “Mr. 420,” “Mr. Charlie,” “Ghunda Raj,” “Laat Sahab,” “Kundan,” “But Shikan,” and “Chand Babu,” left a lasting mark in the world of cinema.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Umer Sharif received several prestigious awards during his career. In 1992, he was honored with National Awards for Best Director and Best Actor, a testament to his multifaceted talent.

Notably, he achieved a remarkable feat by being the sole actor to secure four Nigar Awards in a single year and was also the recipient of three Graduate Awards.

Furthermore, Umer Sharif was bestowed with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the government of Pakistan, underscoring his significant impact on the entertainment industry.

Tragically, Umer Sharif, succumbing to a prolonged illness, passed away on October 2, 2021, in Germany. His legacy and contributions to the entertainment world continue to be cherished by his fans and the industry. —APP
