MOSCOW: The border region of Belgorod in Russia witnessed two fatalities on Saturday as a result of shelling by Ukrainian forces, according to the local governor. The continuous attacks on Belgorod’s border villages throughout the week have led to a total death toll of seven individuals.
The governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, stated that the Ukrainian armed forces have been shelling the Shebekino district since the morning.
Among the victims, an elderly woman lost her life in the village of Novaya Tavolzhanka, while another woman succumbed to her injuries in the village of Bezlyudovka. Additionally, two other individuals were wounded in the shelling.
Ukrainian Attacks in Russian Border Region
The Shebekino area has experienced the brunt of the attacks, prompting residents to seek refuge in displacement centers located in the regional capital of Belgorod.
In response to the Ukrainian army’s alleged attempt to invade Belgorod, the Russian army announced on Thursday that it had employed its air force and artillery to repel the assault.
