KYIV: Ukrainian Defence Intelligence has claimed the destruction of a Russian R-330Zh Zhitel electronic warfare (EW) system in the Donetsk region, marking a significant blow in ongoing military operations.

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine made the announcement via Telegram, detailing that the operation was executed through close coordination between its Active Operations Department and an aerial reconnaissance unit of the 45th Artillery Brigade.

The Russian EW system, designed for automated detection, direction finding, and analysis of radio emission signals across various frequency ranges, was targeted and neutralized in the village of Novoluhanske.

In addition to the destruction of the R-330Zh Zhitel, Ukrainian forces also struck a logistics center where Russian forces stored tank equipment and ammunition.

The R-330Zh Zhitel EW system is known for its capability to create radio interference affecting satellite communication systems such as Inmarsat and Iridium, as well as NAVSTAR (GPS) satellite navigation systems, base stations, and cellular communication terminals.

Earlier reports from Military highlighted a similar incident in May, where Ukrainian military personnel used an American M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) to detect and destroy another R-330Zh Zhitel system in the Donetsk region. The accurate strike was facilitated by intelligence gathered from the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ Shark drone.
