KYIV: Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, came under air attack on Saturday and significant explosions were heard, Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko said, but there was no immediate information available regarding any casualties.

This marked the first attack on Kyiv since late September.

“Strong explosions were heard on in the left bank of the capital,” Klitschko said on the Telegram, referring to the left bank of the river Dnipro.

He mentioned that preliminary information suggested that air defence systems were engaged against ballistic missiles.

Air alerts for Kyiv and a nearby region were issued just moments before the explosions were heard. City authorities advised residents to stay in shelters.
