KYIV: Ukraine’s air defence forces downed 10 out of 17 Russian combat drones in various regions across the country overnight, the Ukrainian Air Force said on Tuesday.
The enemy launched Shahed-136/131 combat UAVs from two directions – Russia’s Kursk region and Primorsko-Akhtarsk – along with S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles aimed at civilian facilities in Donetsk and Kherson regions. The Air Force, according to state news agency Ukrinform, documented a total of 17 Shahed-type combat UAVs and six S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles during the engagement.
The Russian Defence Ministry announced that Russian air defence successfully thwarted 22 drones launched by Ukraine, in addition to intercepting 13 more over the Azov Sea and Crimea, as of Tuesday.
The ministry, as cited by state news agency TASS, claimed that the Kyiv regime’s attempt to conduct a terrorist attack using UAVs against Russian territory was foiled.
It further stated that air defence units on duty destroyed 22 Ukrainian UAVs and intercepted 13 others over the Sea of Azov and in the airspace over the Republic of Crimea.
The escalation in drone warfare between Moscow and Kyiv has seen both sides utilizing UAVs to target essential infrastructure in each other’s territories. The Kremlin has expressed concerns about the potential for drone attacks on Moscow and has implemented security measures in response.
