KYIV, Ukraine: Ukraine has launched a series of drone attacks aimed at Moscow and western Russia, though regional officials report no significant injuries or damage as a result of the strikes.
Moscow’s Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, indicated that Russia’s air-defence systems successfully intercepted at least one drone heading toward the capital. Preliminary reports suggested that while debris from the drone fell in the Ramensky district, it did not cause any casualties or substantial damage.
However, drone debris did ignite several brief fires in the Lipetsk region, located in southwestern Russia, as confirmed by the region’s governor. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in that incident either.
Earlier on the same day, Kyiv’s Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, warned residents to seek shelter as Ukrainian air-defence units were actively responding to a new Russian air assault on the capital. Additional reports from the governors of Bryansk and Oryol, western Russian regions, noted that air-defence units successfully destroyed several drones.
Ukraine maintains that its drone strikes are aimed at key Russian infrastructure critical to the ongoing conflict, in response to Moscow’s persistent aerial attacks on Ukraine. Russian authorities often refrain from disclosing the full extent of damage caused by such attacks, especially concerning military and critical infrastructure.
