KYIV, Ukraine: Ukraine’s SBU security service and navy conducted a strike on the Saky air base in Russian-occupied Crimea overnight, inflicting “serious damage”, a Ukrainian intelligence source said on Thursday.

Simultaneously, the Russian military reported the destruction of 19 Ukrainian drones over Crimea and the Black Sea, providing no information regarding casualties or the extent of damage incurred.

“Strikes by the Security Service and the Navy hit the target and caused serious damage to the occupiers’ equipment,” the source said, describing an operation involved the deployment of initial drone attacks, followed by the utilization of Neptune cruise missiles.

The source also revealed that the Saky air base, situated in western Crimea, housed at least 12 combat aircraft and man-portable air defence systems, serving as both a military installation and a training centre for drone operators.
