ISLAMABAD/KYIV: Ukrainian authorities said on Monday that Ukrainian armed forces are repelling constant Russian attacks on Bakhmut and other towns in the eastern region of Donbas, after denying Kremlin claims of 600 soldiers killed in a missile strike.
Russian attacks repelled
According to Arab News, Russia launched seven missile strikes, 31 airstrikes, and 73 attacks from salvo rocket launchers in the previous day, the general staff of Ukraine’s armed forces said in the daily report. Ukrainian forces have repelled attacks on 14 settlements, including Bakhmut.
“Bakhmut holding on despite everything,” President Volodymyr Zelensky said in nightly video remarks on Sunday. “And even though most of the town and villages have been destroyed by Russian strikes, our soldiers have been repelling constant Russian attempts to advance.”
He said that the nearby town of Soledar was holding on “even though there is even greater destruction and things are difficult,”.
Zelensky made the fresh denunciation of Russia’s failure to observe a truce it had proclaimed for Orthodox Christmas by staging attacks on Ukrainian cities.
