KYIV: Russian troops are making advances in four areas along the front line in eastern Ukraine, engaging in “fierce fighting,” according to Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister, Ganna Maliar.
Maliar took to social media on Sunday to provide an update on the situation, stating, “Fierce fighting is going on everywhere. The situation is quite complicated.” She identified the Avdiivka, Mariinka, Lyman, and Svatove sectors as the areas where the enemy is advancing.
In response, Ukrainian forces have launched counteroffensives, with “partial success” reported on the southern flank of Bakhmut, as well as near Berdyansk and Melitopol in southern Ukraine. However, in the south, Ukrainian troops are facing significant challenges, including “intense enemy resistance, remote mining, deploying of reserves,” and are only making gradual progress.
Ukraine’s Forces Determine to Advance
Maliar emphasized that the enemy is persistently and continuously creating obstacles to hinder Ukrainian forces’ advances, employing various tactics. Despite the difficulties, Ukrainian troops remain determined to push forward as quickly as possible.
The situation in eastern Ukraine remains highly volatile and poses a significant threat to regional stability. The ongoing clashes between Ukrainian and Russian forces have escalated tensions, prompting concerns of a further escalation in the conflict.
The international community continues to closely monitor the situation, urging all parties to exercise restraint and work towards a peaceful resolution. Efforts to de-escalate the conflict and engage in meaningful dialogue remain crucial to prevent further loss of life and restore stability in the region.
