KYIV, Ukraine: Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks on Moscow early Wednesday, with Russian air defense units reportedly destroying 11 drones aimed at the capital. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that some drones were downed over Podolsk, a city located 38 km south of the Kremlin. Despite the scale of the attack, there were no reported injuries or damage.
This incident marks one of the most significant attempts to target Moscow using drones, exceeding the scope of a similar attack in May 2023 when eight drones were intercepted. While Ukraine has previously launched smaller drone strikes on Moscow, this attack represents a substantial escalation.
In addition to Moscow, Ukraine launched drone attacks on several Russian border regions, including Bryansk, Belgorod, Kaluga, and Kursk. Russian officials reported that a total of 34 drones were destroyed across these regions, with no casualties or significant damage reported.
The drone strikes are part of Ukraine’s broader strategy to target Russian infrastructure critical to Moscow’s war efforts, in retaliation for continued Russian strikes on Ukrainian territory. Russian officials did not provide full details on the damage inflicted by the attacks, reflecting a broader pattern of limited disclosure from both sides.
