KYIV: Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba highlighted the significance of his country’s territorial integrity during a meeting with China’s special envoy Li Hui, according to a statement from the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.

In the meeting, Kuleba provided a detailed explanation of the principles necessary for establishing a stable and just peace, which are based on the respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the ministry’s statement noted.

China’s special envoy arrived in Kyiv on Tuesday for a two-day visit aimed at holding talks with Ukrainian authorities as part of a broader European tour to promote Beijing’s plan for resolving the conflict with Russia.

China’s Efforts to Resolve Ukraine-Russia Conflict

Chinese leader Xi Jinping has been positioning China as a neutral mediator in the conflict and had previously visited Moscow in March.

However, he has faced criticism for not visiting Kyiv and for refraining from condemning Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

During the meeting with Li, Kuleba underscored that Ukraine rejects any proposals that would entail the loss of its territories or the freezing of the conflict.

He also commended the “importance” of China’s mediating role, particularly in initiatives such as the Black Sea Initiative, which facilitated the resumption of grain exports through the Black Sea, as well as its contributions to nuclear safety.

Both sides agreed to intensify dialogue on key issues, signaling a commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
