KYIV: Ukraine said on Wednesday that its air force had destroyed nearly 20 Russian attack drones and several missiles in Moscow’s latest aerial assault on targets across the country.

Kyiv officials asserted that Russian forces had been amassing drones and missiles, intending to systematically target Ukraine’s struggling energy grid during the winter months.

The Ukrainian Air Force disclosed on social media, “In total, the strike involved: 21 Shahed-136/131 strike drones; three X-59 guided missiles.” They claimed to have successfully intercepted all the drones and two of the missiles.

The operation involved the utilization of fighter jets, anti-aircraft systems, and mobile air defence units deployed in the southern and central regions of Ukraine.

The announcement mentioned that the third missile, although not intercepted, failed to reach its intended target. There has been no immediate response from the Russian side.

Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during the previous winter resulted in prolonged power outages and heating disruptions for millions of residents.

The Kremlin attributed the situation to Kyiv, placing responsibility on them for not engaging in negotiations.
