KYIV: A US top military official has admitted that Ukraine’s counter-offensive against Moscow will be “very bloody”, and difficult, Western media reported on Saturday. General Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said he was not surprised that progress had been slower than forecast, however, he added that Kyiv was “advancing steadily”. He maintained, “It goes slow, but that is part of the nature of conflict,”.

Earlier, Ukraine President Zelensky also admitted the counter-offensive was making slow progress. General Milley said that the counter-offensive was “advancing gradually, purposely working its way via very tough minefields… 500m per day, that kind of thing”. He maintained that he was unsurprised, saying “Conflict on paper and actual war are very different. In real conflict, actual people die,” he added.

Ukrainian troops were “attacking via minefields”, the general said, saying that “this is literally a war for their life”. He claimed Washington was giving Kyiv “as much support as possible”.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s army top official Valery Zaluzhny said that the counter-offensive had been hindered by a lack of adequate weapons. He told Washington Post that he was frustrated by the slow deliveries of arms pledged by the Western countries.

He said that he did not need over hundred planes. Valery Zaluzhny said, “I will not threaten the entire world. Only a limited number will be enough,”.
