KYIV: On the one-year anniversary of the Bucha massacre, Ukraine’s army chief, Valery Zaluzhny, has vowed to continue the fight for independence. Russian forces had withdrawn from Bucha, leaving behind a trail of destruction and death in their wake.
The discovery of bodies of at least 20 persons in civilian clothing, some with their hands tied tight behind their backs, lying in a street of the suburb on April 2 last year, led to accusations of war crimes against Russian troops.
Ukraine and its Western allies have accused Russian soldiers of killing some 1,400 civilians around Bucha and have identified dozens of Russian soldiers responsible, according to prosecutors in Kyiv.
In contrast, Moscow has claimed that the atrocities carried out in Bucha were staged.
Ukraine Army Chief resolves to fight for independence
Despite the horrors of the Bucha massacre, Zaluzhny’s statement underscores Ukraine’s resolve to fight for independence.
As tensions continue to escalate between Ukraine and Russia, the world watches and hopes for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
