LONDON: The UK government has declined the Indian government’s request seeking ‘no’ to the asylum pleas by the Sikh separatists.
The Modi-led Indian government had approached the UK authorities after Sikh protesters replaced the Indian flag with that of Khalistan at the Indian High Commission in London, to plead that the Sikh separatists shouldn’t be given asylum on political grounds. However, the External Affairs Department of the UK has rejected India’s request in this regard. The UK department held that whoever fulfils the criteria for asylum on political grounds would be granted the same.
It is to mention here that the Sikh leaders reached in front of the UK parliament on the Besakhi Day. Speaking on the occasion, Sikh leader Permjeet Pama said that the Sikh community would continue their struggle for the freedom which, he added, wouldn’t stop.
