LONDON: British Trade unions have passed a motion to boycott Israel and condemned its aggression on the innocent people of Palestinian, Western media reported on Wednesday.

The motion, presented by the National Education Union at the Trades Union Congress in Liverpool, criticized the upcoming Economic Activity of Public Bodies Bill, which, if adopted in Parliament, would make difficult to boycott Israel.

It also urged for support for a coalition of more than 70 groups called Right to Boycott, which includes Greenpeace, Liberty, Friends of the Earth, the Methodist Church, the Quakers, the Muslim Association of Britain, and Na’amod: British Jews Against Occupation.

The motion said that the bill would weaken ethical investment and procurement by public bodies by restricting workers’ rights, international law and environmental concerns, linked to the behavior of a foreign country.

Ben Jamal, director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, in a statement welcomed the passing of the important motion that confirms the support of the British trade unions for the struggle of Palestinian for liberation, and its opposition to the government’s attempts to repress the Palestinian movement.

He added the motion completely rejects any move to delegitimize the Palestinian call for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel.

Earlier the Labour Party said it would oppose the government’s bill.
