China has removed its six diplomats from the UK – including one of its senior officials two months following violence at its consulate in Manchester. Reports said that the diplomats left the UK by Wednesday.
British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said that police wanted to question the officials for their alleged role in violence outside China’s consulate in the northern English city. Cleverly said that he is disappointed that these officials will not be interviewed.
He said that police had requested to waive their immunity so they could be questioned. Cleverly added that in response to their requests, China has removed its officials from the UK.

However, China said that the UK government has failed to fulfill its obligations as per international law to protect and secure its consulate premises and officials. It’s Manchester consul-general had returned home as part of a rotation of diplomats.
“China’s consul-general in Manchester, UK has completed his term and had returned to the country. This is a normal rotation of consular officials,” a Chinese embassy spokesperson said in a statement on Twitter.
