LONDON: Britain’s Maritime Trade Operations agency (UKMTO) reported on Sunday receiving information about drone activity and a potential explosion in the Bab Al-Mandab strait in the Red Sea.
The drone activity is said to have originated from Yemen, prompting a cautionary advisory from UKMTO to vessels in the vicinity, Reuters news agency reported.
This incident adds to a series of security concerns in the region since the outbreak of hostilities between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas on October 7. Last month, an Israeli-linked cargo ship was seized by the Houthi group.

The Houthis, who had previously targeted Israel with ballistic missiles and drones, including threats against Israeli vessels, have not provided immediate comments on the latest incident.
