LONDON: Foreign Secretary of Britain James Cleverly has said he will be traveling to Japan to attend the Group of Seven’s foreign ministers meeting to discuss the crisis in Israel and Gaza, said a Downing Street statement on Monday.

Cleverly in a statement said that the G7 partners, will also be addressing other priorities ranging from Russia-Ukraine war to climate change, economic security and global trade.

During his visit to Tokyo, the foreign secretary is also expected to meet Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoko Kamikawa to boost security partnerships after signing the Hiroshima Accord earlier this year.

As part of the accord, the countries in May announced the launch of a semiconductors partnership to enhance chip supply chains in an increasingly competitive market.

It is to be noted that when five G7 members, including France, Germany, Italy, Britain, and the United States, issued a joint statement expressing their support for Israel, Japan and Canada abstained from signing the declaration, opting for a flexible stance in addressing the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The Hamas-run health ministry has said that more than 10,000 people have been killed since Israel launched retaliatory strikes, with more than 4,000 of them children.

Israeli airstrikes have hit hospitals, ambulances, schools and refugee camps, as Tel Aviv cut off food, fuel, water and power supplies to Gaza.
