RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has emphasised that the security and stability of the United Arab Emirates are an integral part of Pakistan’s own security, the military’s media wing said in a statement on Monday.
Field Marshal Munir made the remarks during a meeting with Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Advisor of the UAE, Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
“During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across various sectors, particularly in the fields of economic collaboration, investment, and security,” ISPR said.
They also discussed recent regional developments and underscored the need for sustained coordination to advance peace and stability across the region.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the government of the United Arab Emirates for its longstanding investments and continued support to Pakistan’s economy and security over the years.
He added that this continued assistance reflects the deep-rooted historical ties between the two brotherly nations and praised the UAE leadership for its constructive contribution to Pakistan’s economic and social development.
“Field Marshal Asim Munir further affirmed that the security and stability of the United Arab Emirates are an integral part of Pakistan’s own security, given the enduring historical relations and strong strategic partnership between the two countries,” ISPR said.
He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to sustaining collaborative efforts to further deepen this partnership across all sectors, in a way that advances the shared interests of both brotherly nations and promotes peace, stability, and prosperity throughout the region.
Last week, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke by telephone with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and praised the Gulf nation for its “consistent and unwavering support to Pakistan.”
In the previous month, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Qasr Al Shati Palace, where both sides reviewed the state of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The UAE is Pakistan’s third-largest trading partner after China and the United States, and a major source of foreign investment, valued at over $10 billion in the last 20 years, according to the UAE foreign ministry.
It is also home to more than a million Pakistani expatriates who send back more than $5 billion in remittances to the South Asian country annually.
The two countries regularly engage in high-level diplomatic and economic dialogues to strengthen their strategic partnership and regional stability.
The relationship emphasises mutual support, economic growth, and shared development goals, reflecting a commitment to long-term collaboration.
In January 2024, Pakistan and the UAE signed multiple agreements worth more than $3 billion for cooperation in railways, economic zones, and infrastructure sectors.
