UAE Says Shifting from Geo-political to Geo-economics Diplomacy

NEW YORK: The senior diplomatic adviser to the UAE president has said that the country is shifting from geopolitical diplomacy to geo-economic strategies, Arab media reported on Wednesday.

Dr. Anwar Gargash while addressing the inaugural Global Middle East Summit in New York said the focus of the UAE government was to initiate joint economic initiatives with regional and global partners to benefit the country.

Region needs stability, prosperity

He stressed that the region needs stability and prosperity.

The UAE leader said that his country believes in multilateralism. He noted the UAE was making efforts to break out onto the global stage and in this regard had participated in fourth G20 meeting, becoming part of the BRICS group, and would be hosting COP28 later this year.

“We’ve been one of the Middle Eastern countries that has taken an interest in climate and energy transition for more than 15, 16 years,” he said.

Gargash termed that US engagement in the Middle East ass extremely important. The adviser added the US was committed to the defense of UAE for the next 30 years.

He described the Abraham Accords signed by the UAE, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan on normalizing ties with US as “a big success,” particularly in economic terms.

Gargash concluded the UAE and Saudi Arabia have always cooperated in many sectors.
