RIYADH: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of Economy, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri said his country supports the creation of a single customs union to support building trade across the region.
According to Arab News, speaking at a meeting of the Economic and social council in Riyadh, Abdullah said the UAE prioritised strengthening joint Arab cooperation, in line with the country’s commitment to helping efforts for economic and social stability for Arabs in a sustainable manner.
Al-Marri led the UAE meeting which is part of the build-up to the 32nd Arab League Summit which begins on May 19. The minister said that “We’re keen to strengthen the frameworks for economic integration among Arab states.”
He said, “And to adopt open and accommodating different policies, including the creation of a single customs union, which support raise imports and exports and supports the growth of Arab trade exchange, within the structure of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.”
He said, aimed to stimulate shared investments that would support to “create thousands of jobs.”
The Arab League Summit is scheduled to be held in Jeddah and would host Arab leaders and representatives including Syrian President Bashar Assad for the first time since his country was excluded from the alliance in 2011.
