ABU DHABI: The UAE has sent an aircraft carrying 33 tonnes of food goods to assist the people of Afghanistan affected by the quake that hit northwest of Herat, which resulted in thousands of deaths and injuries, including children, and grave damage to infrastructure in the area, Arab media reported on Tuesday.
UAE Sends Relief to Quake-hit People in Afghanistan
The relief help was accumulated via the collective efforts of various of the UAE’s humanitarian entities, including the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, in coordination and cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Sultan Al Shamsi Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organizations Affairs told the local media, “This immediate relief shipment of food items, sent as part of a collaboration and cooperation between the UAE’s humanitarian and charity organizations, is in line with our humanitarian efforts to provide immediate supplies to other nations during times of crisis, particularly in natural disasters.”

The Minister stressed that the UAE was among the first countries in providing help and assisting the people of Afghanistan to lessen the impact of the quake, saying that this shows the UAE’s solid promise to providing help and immediate relief to nations and peoples of across the globe during times of crisis.
