ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, received the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi, on Thursday.

During the meeting, the Ambassador delivered an invitation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif from the UAE leadership, inviting him to attend COP28, a climate change summit, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai in November and December 2023.

Prime Minister Sharif expressed his gratitude for the invitation and also thanked the UAE leadership for their support in relief and rehabilitation efforts in the wake of the 2022 devastating floods in Pakistan.

He appreciated the UAE’s role in combating the growing issue of climate change and expressed the hope that the UAE’s stewardship of the COP28 summit would yield meaningful outcomes for nations like Pakistan, which are most vulnerable to climate change.

The Prime Minister also recalled his successful visit to the UAE in January this year and emphasized the common resolve of the leadership of both Muslim countries to translate the fraternal bonds into mutually rewarding economic ties.

He further stated that the UAE is home to 1.7 million Pakistanis contributing to the two brotherly countries’ progress, economic development and prosperity.

The UAE’s invitation to Pakistan to attend COP28 is a positive step towards enhancing cooperation between the two countries in addressing the pressing issue of climate change.

Like many developing countries, Pakistan is particularly vulnerable to climate change impacts, including floods, droughts, and extreme weather events.

The Prime Minister’s meeting with the UAE Ambassador highlights the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries and their commitment to working together on issues of mutual interest.

It is expected that Pakistan’s participation in COP28 will provide a platform for the country to showcase its efforts in combating climate change and to learn from the experiences of other countries in this regard.
