ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) successfully thwarted organized cyberattacks targeting the country’s digital infrastructure and critical sectors, the state news agency WAM reported on Saturday.

According to the report, the attacks “included attempts to infiltrate networks, deploy ransomware, and conduct systematic phishing campaigns targeting national platforms,” and involved the use of artificial intelligence technologies to develop offensive cyber tools. The perpetrators of the attacks were not identified, according to the Reuters.

WAM described the cyber incidents as being of a “terrorist nature,” aimed at “destabilizing the nation and disrupting essential services,” highlighting the growing threat posed by malicious actors in the digital domain.

The UAE’s Cybersecurity Council affirmed that the safety of individuals, protection of personal data, and continuity of critical services remain top priorities.

The council noted that the attacks demonstrated a “qualitative shift in the methods employed by terrorist groups and their ability to harness modern technologies to carry out digital attacks.”

Authorities urged the public to report cyber threats or suspicious activities through official channels, emphasizing proactive vigilance as a key part of national cyber defense.

“The council reiterated its full commitment to safeguarding the digital domain and preserving stability,” WAM reported, underlining the UAE’s strategic approach to countering evolving cyber threats and ensuring resilience in its digital infrastructure.
