UAE Evacuates 34 Citizens from Florida as Hurricane Idalia Arrives: Envoy

WASHINGTON: The UAE Embassy in Washington, in coordination with representatives of the UAE’s official mission in the United States, has successfully evacuated 34 UAE citizens residing in Florida to safe places as hurricane Idalia arrived aground on the west coast of the southern state, Arab media reported on Saturday.

UAE envoy Yousef Al-Otaiba stated that “as an embodiment of the UAE’s constant keenness to follow up on the conditions of its nationals abroad and ensure their protection and safety, the embassy took all necessary steps to evacuate its nationals from Florida,” WAM maintained.

The Ambassador said 16 nationals were evacuated to Miami and others 18 to Atlanta. The UAE embassy asked its nationals to take precautions, stay away from hurricane-hit areas, and adhere to the instructions issued by local officials.

The embassy further said the necessity of communicating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the UAE in case of emergency.
