UAE Contributes $5 million to UN for Humanitarian Efforts in Sudan

DUBAI: The UAE will allocate around $5 million to support the Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF) that would be managed by the UN, official news agency WAM reported on Saturday. In an agreement with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the UAE contribution to the SHF will be managed by OCHA, to “facilitate access to funds to address the humanitarian needs and emergencies on the ground,” the news agency reported.

Martin Griffiths, Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator said that they are grateful to the Government and the people of the UAE for the generous support of $70 million to help bring relief to the people in Sudan via the UN. With this allocation, they can also bolster their lifesaving support to families and communities caught up in Sudan’s crisis, the official added.

The UAE’s long-term support to Sudan is a testament to their dedication to fostering a prosperous Sudan and promoting stability in the entire, region, the UAE’s Assistant Minister for Political Affairs and Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He added that they are pleased to partner with OCHA and other UN organizations to deliver vital help to those most impacted.

Meanwhile, Emirati authorities also inked a deal with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and stop the imminent risk of scarcity.
