CHANGCHUN/SHENYANG: Typhoon Khanun, the sixth typhoon of the year, poses a threat of intense downpours and disruptions to passenger train services in China’s northeastern provinces on Saturday and Sunday, said local authorities.

Jilin Province meteorological bureau predicted heavy rainfall across seven cities, including the provincial capital, Changchun. The central and southern regions of the province are expected to experience higher precipitation levels, with rates of up to 40 millimeters per hour, as cautioned.

After landfall in the Liaoning Province’s coastal region on Friday night, the typhoon weakened into a tropical low-pressure system. Nevertheless, as stated by the local weather bureau, the province will continue to face strong winds and heavy rainfall throughout the weekend.

The coastal city of Dalian anticipates powerful winds reaching speeds of up to 88 kilometers per hour on both Saturday and Sunday. Authorities at the city’s flood control headquarters have also issued warnings regarding potential flash floods and geological hazards.
