ISLAMABAD: Police have arrested two Taliban commanders, and their facilitator from Swabi, and nine terrorists were arrested during intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in Punjab.
The Taliban commanders’ facilitator is a former nazim and present councilor.
Police have also recovered 20 kilograms of explosives and hand grenades from their possession.
The Taliban commanders have confessed to their links with Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested nine terrorists in intelligence based operations (IBOs) conducted in four districts of Punjab.
CTD arrests nine TTP terrorists in Punjab
CTD officials said the terrorists were arrested in Lahore, Gujranwala, DG Khan, and Bahawalpur. Those arrested in Lahore are associated with the banned TTP. The arrested terrorists have been identified as Junaid Ali, Abdul Rehman, Ruvaid Khan, Ghulam Allah, Ahmed Hassan, Jaleel Ahmed, Imdadullah, and Basit Ali.
CTD officials said materials to manufacture suicide jackets, heavy weaponry, and a hand grenade were recovered from their custody. Officials added that seven cases had been registered against the arrested suspects, and the investigation was underway.
The CTD officials further said 20 suspects were interrogated during the IBOs. The CTD arrested 91 suspects in 476 combing operations, and 67 cases were registered against the suspects.
