Two Saudis Get 17-Year Jail Sentence for Processing Drugs

RIYADH: A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced two Saudi nationals to 17 years in jail after they were found guilty of possessing drugs, Arab media reported on Monday.

According to reports they also have to pay a fine of SR100,000 ($26,655).

The man and woman had prepared a holiday facility to supply drugs and were having 100 pills of psychotropic substances and hashish.

The man was jailed for 12 years, while the woman got a 5-year sentence.

Saudi law has different sentences for convicts depending on whether they are smugglers, dealers, or drug users.

Saudi Arabia has been exerting long-term efforts to curb the smuggling of drugs into the Kingdom and crack down on illicit drug trafficking.
