ISLAMABAD/TOKOY: Japan police said that two persons were found following an avalanche in Japan and were presumed dead a day after the off-piste accident in Nagano.
According to the AFP, police official Tomohiro Kushibiki said that a search had been under way for two foreign persons reported missing, and police officers were working to confirm they were the same pair.
He said that both persons were found “in cardio-respiratory arrest”, a term commonly used in Japan before the death can be confirmed by a doctor.
Missing persons found
The missing two persons had been found outside the patrolled places of a ski resort in Otari village along with eleven other skiers and snowboarders when the incident took place on Sunday.
Tomohiro said that the five persons were hit by the avalanche, with the other three able to climb down by themselves.
The other persons of the group also reportedly made it safely back down the slope.
The previous week, a cold snap blanketed much of Japan in snow, including Nagano, which draws many overseas foreign tourists during ski season.
The avalanche warning and snow warning are currently in location for the area.
Mountain Gazette magazine reported that American person skier Kyle Smaine, 31, had been killed in an avalanche in Nagano on Sunday.
“This is what brings me back to Japan each cold winter. Unbelievable heavy snow quality, and fun terrain that seems to get better more exploring you do,” Smaine had written in the comment accompanying the video.
