ZAGREB: Tragedy struck on Wednesday as a Hungarian military helicopter crashed in central Croatia, resulting in the deaths of two crew members, while the search continues for a third member.
The crash occurred during a training mission under “unknown circumstances,” according to the Hungarian military.
Josip Brozicevic, the head of Croatia’s national mountain rescue service, confirmed that the crash site had been located in the Cikola river canyon near the town of Drnis. He stated, “The bodies of two crew members were also found,” while emphasizing that the search for the missing crew member was still ongoing.
Hungarian Defence Ministry Confirms Helicopter Crash
The Hungarian Defence Ministry swiftly acknowledged the incident and expressed its condolences, assuring that they had commenced the process of informing the families. The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time.
In response to the crash, Croatia’s armed forces mobilized a plane and helicopter to assist in surveying the area where the helicopter went down. Croatia, a member of NATO since 2009, regularly engages in military exercises with partner nations within the alliance.
