BAGHDAD: Two protesters were killed when security forces used live ammunition to disperse an anti-government protest in Nassiriya, Iraq on Wednesday, western media reported.

According to Reuters, sixteen people were also injured when security forces were making attempt to disperse the protest against the government. Police officials said that protestors also threw stones at security personnel.
Eyewitnesses told the media that people gathered near a hospital. According to Arab news as many as 300 protestors took part in the protest demonstration. The protest was called against recent arrests in the city of Nassiriya.
Protesters took to the roads against a court’s verdict this week. It may be recalled that it was the first demonstration since a new government was constituted by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani in October.
