Two Indian Fighter Jets Crash in Madhya Pradesh

ISLAMABAD/NEW DEHLI: At least two fighter jets of the Indian Air Force crashed in the state of Madhya Pradesh during routine drills on Saturday, NDTV reported.

The publication stated a search and rescue operation was under way. Information on casualties had not been received till the filing of this report.

The downed fighter jets included a Mirage 2000 and a Sukhoi Su-30, which had taken off from the Gwalior Air Force base in India.

Videos of the wrecked jets’ debris scattered on the ground in the Morena place surfaced soon after the crash.

The Indian army has set up a Court of Inquiry to probe the incident. The body could inquire whether the two jets witnessed a mid-air collision.

“The Su-30 had two pilots while Mirage 2000 had one pilot during the crash. Initial reports suggest two pilots are safe while an IAF chopper is reaching the location of the third pilot soon,” the publication quoted the defense sources as saying.

Five Indian armed forces killed in chopper crash

Last year in October, five Indian military soldiers were killed when their helicopter crashed near the country’s border with China, the defence ministry in the second such fatal accident in region that month.

The Advance Light Helicopter came south of Tuting, a remote town near the Line of Actual Control that divides India’s northeastern Arunachal Pradesh state from Chinese territory.
