RAWALPINDI: At least 12 security personnel were martyred while six terrorists were killed when terrorists attempted to attack a Joint Check Post in Northwest Pakistan, the military’s media wing said on Wednesday.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), on 19 November 2024, Khwarij terrorists attempted to attack a Joint Check Post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s area of MaliKhel in Bannu district.

The ISPR said, “In ensuing fire exchange, six khwarij were sent to hell.”

It added that the attempt to enter the post was effectively thwarted by security troops, which forced the khwarij terrorists to ram an explosive laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the post.

“The suicide blast led to collapse of portion of perimeter wall and damaged the adjoining infrastructure, resulting in martyrdom of twelve brave sons of soil that include ten soldiers of the security forces and two soldiers of Frontier Constabulary” the ISPR said.

Sanitization operation is being conducted in the area and the perpetrators of this heinous act will be brought to justice, the ISPR statement maintained.

Security forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave men further strengthen our resolve, it further added.

Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have expressed deep grief and sorrow over the martyrdom of twelve security personnel in the attack.

In their separate statements, they reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to completely eradicate the scourge of terrorism.

President Zardari paid rich tributes to the soldiers for sacrificing their lives in the defense of the nation.

He added that the entire nation salutes those who sacrificed their lives for the safety of the country.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his statement said the sacrifices of the nation’s sons will never go in vain.

He said Fitna-ul-Khawarij, which endangers people’s lives and property, will have to pay a heavy price.

Earlier, a deadly explosion claimed at least 27 lives and left more than 60 others wounded at Quetta’s railway station.

Meanwhile, Pakistan on Tuesday decided to launch a comprehensive military operation against terrorist groups in the country’s southwestern Balochistan province.

The country’s Apex Committee of the National Action Plan (NAP)—comprising top civil and military leadership—held a crucial huddle chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The meeting reviewed the law and order situation, particularly in Balochistan, which has witnessed a sharp increase in terror attacks by outlawed terrorist groups.

It has been decided that the operation will focus on organisations such as the Majeed Brigade, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), and BRAS, which have been linked to attacks on civilians and foreign nationals.
